“The Speech Pathology Services offered at Okeedokee offers parent’s and carers the opportunity to address any concerns they may have with their children’s speech, language, fluency, voice, swallowing and multimodal communication development. Southern Cross University Speech Pathology students use a wide range of assessment tools to evaluate these areas. If the need for services is identified, therapy is available to address the specific and individualized needs of each child. Therapy sessions are conducted within regular preschool hours at the centre, and parents are welcome to attend. The service includes provision of education to families and staff about strategies to stimulate speech and language development”  -Southern Cross University Students, Intake One, 2019

Okeedokee Early Learning has evaluated the AEDC Data 2019 (The AEDC census data provides a snapshot of children’s development that can inform communities and support planning, policy and action).

Our area made up of Coomera and Pimpama has an alarming 21% of children at risk of language delay, compared to the National Australian figure of 6%.

In response to these findings Okeedokee has established a Speech Pathology program within the centre, offering children a sense of security in a familiar environment. In the spirit of community, Okeedokee works alongside Southern Cross university offering fourth year students placement alongside a supervisor. Children are offered one on one speech therapy sessions if required and group reading experiences in each room to capacity build educators and embed speech pathology techniques throughout our centre.
