2017 Year of the Rooster

Children at okeedokee Coomera Rivers enjoyed celebrating Chinese New Year as they learnt all about other cultural celebrations.  Chinese New Year is one of the most prominent festivals celebrated around the world, so Educators ensured that the children at okeedokee learnt all aboout the the traditions and culture behind the popular festival.  Children learn to have a sense of belonging in their homes, their communtities and then the wider world through exploration of other cultures and diversity. The children created dragons, listened to traditional Chinese music, looked at Chinese symbols manipulated playdough into the shapes and words.  Red envelopes were given to children as a gift of good fortune, happiness, longevity and wealth, as well as all the windows and doors being opened throughout the Centre to welcome the new Lunar year in.
